Holistic Detoxing: Organs, Immune Waste, and Circulation

Holistic Detoxing: Organs, Immune Waste, and Circulation

Posted by Joshua Hoffman on 12th Nov 2025

The symphony of your body is orchestrated into a complete, humming system where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Thus, it is important when zooming in on the parts of your detox system to keep your perspective focused on the whole body.

From the perspective of the whole, when looking to optimize detox we must seek proper circulation.

It’s important not to over complicate this when looking at all of its parts, and remember that circulation is as simple as breath, blood, and sweat.

Zooming in: We want to consider the circulation of 1. water via ideal hydration and sweat, 2. nutrient rich blood, 3. breath, not just as oxygen and CO2, but as life-force (prana, chi, oxygen, etc.), 4. Immune cells both as immune cells and lymph cells, 5. Bile & enzymes excretion from the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, 6. Microbiome optimization, and 7. Energetic/Magnetic field.

Now here’s the danger of zooming in, it gets complex really quickly, so let’s initiate our perspective reminder here that detox is simple: we’re just optimizing the circulation of breath, blood, and sweat by drinking high quality water, getting good nutrients, and getting in nature.

Organs of the Detox System

Detoxing starts with what we put in our bodies, through our breath, water intake, and diet; and, it ends with what we remove from our bodies through circulation optimization.

Heart and Lungs

Let’s start at the beginning with our heart and lungs. We want to prioritize healthy breathing, getting our heart rate up, and getting fresh air daily. Further, we can avoid eating or doing anything that builds up excess mucous in the lungs and sinuses. Take notice of when mucous shows up in your body and make changes in your diet and lifestyle that keep the mucous fluid, preventing it from becoming too heavy or regular.

Some personal examples in my body regarding mucous health are: 1. Dairy creates more mucous in my lungs and sinuses, so I limit it in what way feels appropriate for my week, 2. caffeine creates mucous in my brain & sinuses and also can lead my nervous system to feeling sluggish (bogged down in a sticky, mucousy way).

Liver, Gallbladder, & Pancreas

Next up is the liver/gallbladder. They are the great gate keeper of healthy detox, and work with both fat soluble and water soluble toxins. They also need regular bitters (cruciferous, bitter leafy greens are great), and healthy fats (avocado oil, butter, raw olive oil, and coconut oil are my favorites) that don’t bog down your system with toxic, processed fats.

Avoid toxic seed oils like canola oil, overheating your olive oil, and sugars and flours. These tax the liver, causing it to spend too much of its valuable time and energy digesting the burden of excess toxins instead of optimizing your detox processes down stream. Also, these toxic ingredients can be stored in the liver as fat, creating fatty liver. You'd be amazed at how many healhty looking people (who don't even drink alcohol) have fatty liver.

Final note with the liver is to always eat organic when possible to avoid extra toxic load.

Next is optimizing bile flow by keeping liver and gallbladder inflammation down, preventing any fat build up in the liver, and, again, avoiding sugar and processed flours to the best of your abilities. This allows the bile and other digestive enzymes to flow from the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas in ideal qualities and quantities to set up later stages of detox in your gut.

Your Gut: Microbiome

Following the bile flow is the whole of your gut - aka. your microbiome.

Optimize gut detox by providing your microbiome healthy probiotic strains via a high quality probiotic, potent and varied prebiotic fibers, and keeping your gut inflammation down. Great ways to do this are by regularly taking turmeric and ginger, eating fiber rich foods, and eating foods potent in antioxidants.

This ensures that your gut is able to host the ideal bacteria in the ideal ratios that will then create the ideal short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and other nutritional components your body needs to fuel healthy cellular genesis, fuel the immune generating cells in your bones and glandular system, and bind out toxins like heavy metals and metabolic waste for later removal through the colon.

Kidneys

Next up are your kidneys whose primary detox pathway involves water soluble toxin removal via your bladder. Your kidneys need healthy, regular amounts of clean water (free of microplastics and other toxins), as well as high quality electrolytes to properly fuel your liver, nerves, and blood with the mineral components necessary to function well.

Immune System

This complex and beautiful system is deeply tied to your gut health, your bone health, and your glandular system health. Immune cells generate in their infancy from the core cells of your bones and then move into your glandular system and your gut to mature and become the soldiers of your body that defend you from invaders like viruses and bacteria, molds, and especially cancerous cells.

If your immune system becomes under or overstimulated, your detox system will become slow and inefficient, creating either: autoimmune situations where your immune system attacks your own tissues, or immune down-regulation situations where your immune system is trained to go to sleep allowing dis-ease to grow in your body, unattested. Unfortunately, many people suffer from both of these challenges. But, they can find healing by reseting their microbiome, and augmenting their holistic detox system.

Your immune system can also be reset by timing in the right lengths and types of fasts. Either intermittent, or extended fasts can do wonders for your immune system and detox system.

Lymph System

Following next is your lymph system that works tirelessly to remove metabolic waste, matured immune cells, and remove mucous ‘garbage’ from the deepest parts of your body: from your brain, to your muscles, to your nerves.

Lymph like channels literally squeeze out the old, natural metabolizing baggage from every corner of your body, moving out through your gut, skin, and lungs.

However, in order to do its job well, your lymph system needs to be moved from external impacts. It does not have a pump system of its own and therefore requires moving your body via exercise or massage to flow.

Massage, Yoga, HIIT exercise, hiking, rucking, and more are great ways to get your lymph flowing.

Your Skin

Finally, comes the largest organ of your body: your skin.

Sweating regularly via exercise and sauna is one of the most effective ways to detox as your skin acts like the closest located emergency exit door from any point in your body. It depends on good hydration and regular movement to be optimized as a detox pathway.

Also, your skin acts as a communicator of the quality of your detox. Healthy detoxing makes for a healthy looking person, tighter skin around the cheeks, eyes, and chin, and skin clear of acne or rashiness.

Your Energy Body

A bonus detox organ is your nervous system via your magnetic field.

Similar to when you rub an inflated balloon on your hair until it stands up, baggage electrical signal can stack up and get clogged in your energy body, eventually disrupting the circulation of your electrical flow. You’ve felt this way if you’ve ever been up in a plastic playground slide, surrounded by too much electronics for an extended period of time, over even if you've spent too much time turning stressful thoughts over and over in your mind.

Stress, over exposure to technology, earpods, and wifi signals can all build stagnancy in your electrical 'energy' body.

Nature provides great, easy and free ways to instantly ground your energy field, leaving you feeling refreshed and reset.

Some ways to detox your electrical system are to walk on dirt or grass barefoot, take a walk in nature and breathe fresh air, get in cold water or a hot tub, and even pushing through some tree branches or the leaves of bushes. These stimulai will 'comb' out your energy body, cleaning up its signal pathways and optimizing all of the circulations happening downstream in your body.

Products we provide to Optimize Detox
